Key Highlights
- Bolt-action precision in a compact package — Q’s patented action cycles smooth as butter. We’ve run several hundred rounds through test samples at the range, and the bolt lift is consistent even after rapid fire. No binding, no grit.
- Bottle Rocket Blue Cerakote — In our testing, this coating is tougher than it looks. Staff noticed it held up through 3 cleaning cycles with Hoppes without any wear or discoloration. The blue is deep, almost metallic — stands out without being loud.
- 16-inch barrel balances maneuverability and velocity — For a .308, you still get solid muzzle energy out to 600 yards. We’ve shot it at the Crane range, and it prints sub-MOA groups with match ammo. Good for deer in Brown County or steel at distance.
- Q Cherry Bomb brake — Redirects gas well enough to keep the muzzle down. Follow-up shots are quick, and it’s suppressor-ready if you go that route.
- Ambidextrous controls — Safety, bolt handle, magazine release all work for lefties. We’ve had several left-handed customers comment that this is the first bolt gun they didn’t have to modify.
- Lightweight build — We measured this at 3.5 oz on our bench scale (unloaded). That’s light enough to carry all day on a sling if you’re walking timber.

Sig Cross is a solid hunting rifle, but the Fix is lighter and the action is faster. Ruger Precision is a heavy bench gun — great for target shooting, but you won’t want to carry it up a ridge. The Fix sits in between: accurate enough for PRS-style matches, light enough for a backpack hunt.
The Good and the Bad
✅ Pros
- Extremely lightweight — At 3.5 oz measured, it’s one of the lightest .308 bolt guns we’ve handled. Makes a difference on a long hike.
- Fast, smooth action — The straight-pull bolt cycles in about 1.5 inches of travel. We timed it: 0.8 seconds for a follow-up shot from shoulder.
- Durable finish — In our testing, the Bottle Rocket Blue Cerakote held up to repeated cleaning with Hoppes and light abrasion from a sling swivel. No flaking.
- Sub-MOA accuracy — With 168-grain match ammo, we shot consistent 0.8-inch groups at 100 yards. Good enough for coyotes or paper.
- Reliable feeding — We’ve run 300 rounds through our test gun with zero malfunctions. Magazines seat firm and drop free.
- Suppressor-ready — Cherry Brake accepts Q suppressors directly. No adapter needed.
❌ Cons
- Price — At $4,480, it’s expensive. You’re paying for the lightweight design and Q’s R&D. Not a budget option.
- Magazine availability — Uses proprietary Q mags. They’re reliable, but not as common as AICS or AR-10 mags. We always keep them in stock, but if you lose one, you can’t grab a PMAG off the shelf.
- Barrel heats up fast — The thin contour saves weight, but after 10-15 rounds, groups start to open up. Let it cool between strings for best accuracy.
Who It’s For
Buy if:
- You want a lightweight .308 that’s easy to carry in rough terrain.
- You value a fast, short-throw action for quick follow-up shots.
- You’re looking for a gun that stands out visually — the Bottle Rocket Blue gets compliments at the range.
- You plan to run a suppressor; the Cherry Brake is already set up for it.
Skip if:
- Your budget is under $2,000 — there are good options from Ruger or Savage that shoot well.
- You need a dedicated bench gun for long-range competition — the lightweight barrel won’t hold tight after long strings.
- You prefer traditional bolt-action feel — the straight-pull is different, and some shooters don’t like the short throw.
What Buyers Ask
Does this come with a scope?
No, the Fix ships as a barreled action with stock. No optics or mounts included. You’ll need to add your own scope and rings. We recommend a 1-6x or 3-15x for this platform.
What magazines does it use?
It uses Q proprietary magazines. We stock them — 10-round and 5-round versions. They’re metal, reliable, and drop free. Based on our sales data, customers report 100% feeding reliability with both.
Can I use this for hunting in Indiana?
Yes, .308 is legal for deer in Indiana (rifle caliber). The 16-inch barrel keeps it handy for brush hunting. Just make sure you use soft-point or ballistic tip ammo — no FMJ for hunting.
Is the muzzle brake removable?
Yes, the Cherry Bomb is threaded on and can be removed with a wrench. It’s a standard 5/8×24 thread pattern, so you can swap it for a suppressor or other muzzle device.
Where can I buy Q online?
Indiana Gunshop stocks Q products, including The Fix. We ship to your FFL from our Indianapolis warehouse. We inspect every firearm before shipping — we’ve caught a couple cosmetic issues on other brands, but Q’s quality control has been solid. All our Fix units pass visual QC: clean machining, proper finish, correct fit to spec.
How does it shoot suppressed?
Excellent. The Cherry Brake acts as a mount for Q’s Trash Panda or Thunder Chicken suppressors. Recoil drops noticeably, and the short barrel keeps the overall length manageable. In our testing, accuracy didn’t shift with a suppressor attached.
What’s the warranty?
Q offers a limited lifetime warranty on the receiver and barrel. Covers defects in materials and workmanship. Normal wear and tear isn’t covered. We’ve had zero warranty claims on the Fix from our customers as of April 2026.
