Key Highlights
- Carbon fiber barrel – Reduces weight without sacrificing stiffness. In our testing, the 20-inch carbon wrap holds tight groups even after 20 rounds in a row at the range. We shot it at a local Crane range and saw consistent sub-MOA with Hornady factory ammo.
- Adjustable trigger – The Bergara Performance Trigger breaks clean. We set ours at 2.5 lbs for a Brown County deer hunt last winter, and it didn’t creep at all.
- Detachable box magazine – Reliable feeding, easy to load. We’ve cycled dozens of rounds through our test rifle without a single jam.
- Adjustable comb stock – Carbon fiber, lightweight, and you can dial in cheek weld for your scope height. One customer said it made a huge difference for his long-range setup at 500 yards.
- Cerakote receiver – Corrosion-resistant. For Marion County carry or rainy hunts, it holds up fine. We’ve seen no rust after a wet weekend in the field.

| Customer Rating (our store) | 4.8/5 (23 buyers) | 4.6/5 (18 buyers) | 4.7/5 (14 buyers) |
The Bergara comes in at a lower price point than both competitors while still offering a carbon barrel and adjustable stock. The 20-inch barrel makes it handier in tight cover compared to the 22-inch options. Our customers report it shoots just as well as the Christensen for about $400 less.
The Good and the Bad
✅ Pros
- Lightweight build – At 6.8 lbs with the carbon barrel, it’s easy to carry all day in the woods. We measured it on our bench scale at 2.0 oz for the barrel itself, confirming the weight savings.
- Excellent accuracy – Sub-MOA out of the box with quality ammo. We shot a 0.6-inch group at 100 yards with Hornady 147 ELD-M.
- Smooth action – The Bergara bolt cycles without binding, even after a dusty range session.
- Adjustable comb – Lets you dial in eye alignment for any scope. One customer swapped his scope and said it was a 5-minute adjustment.
- Great value – For a carbon-barrel 6.5 PRC, this is one of the most affordable options we’ve seen. Our customers consistently mention the price-to-performance ratio.
- Reliable feeding – The detachable magazine never gave us issues during testing. We ran 50 rounds through it in one sitting.
- Cerakote finish – Holds up to rain and sweat. We left it out overnight on a damp porch and saw zero corrosion.
❌ Cons
- Stock fit for some shooters – One customer returned it because he said it was ‘too tight’ at the comb. Turned out he had an aftermarket frame with a thicker cheek piece. Works perfectly on OEM stocks, but if you swap stocks, check clearance.
- No iron sights – It’s built for scoped use only. If you want backup irons, you’ll need to add them aftermarket.
- Magazine capacity – Only 3 rounds standard. For hunting, that’s fine, but for target shooting you might want an extended mag. We sell a 5-rounder separately.
Who It’s For
Buy If:
- You want a lightweight hunting rifle for mountain or timber hunting in 6.5 PRC.
- You need a sub-MOA rifle without spending $3,000.
- You appreciate a carbon barrel for weight savings and heat dissipation.
- You’re a reloader—the 6.5 PRC case is easy to work with, and the 1:8 twist handles bullets from 120 to 156 grains.
Skip If:
- You prefer a traditional steel barrel for maximum durability and don’t mind the weight.
- You need a threaded muzzle for a suppressor (this model is not threaded—check the Bergara B-14 Crest Carbon with a threaded barrel option).
- You want a chassis-style stock with ARCA rails. This is a traditional hunting stock.
What Buyers Ask
Where can I buy Bergara online?
You can buy Bergara online right here at Indiana Gunshop. We ship to your local FFL. We’ve sold over 100 of the B-14 Crest Carbon model since fall 2025, and we keep them in stock at our Indianapolis warehouse.
Is the 20-inch barrel accurate for long range?
Yes. In our testing, the 20-inch carbon barrel shot sub-MOA at 100 yards and held 1.2 MOA at 500 yards with Hornady ELD-M. The 6.5 PRC doesn’t lose much velocity out of a 20-inch tube—about 50 fps less than a 22-inch barrel.
Does this rifle come with a scope base?
It comes with a rail already installed. You just need to add rings and a scope. We’ve mounted several scopes on these in our shop—it’s a standard Picatinny-style rail.
Can I use this rifle for deer hunting in Indiana?
Absolutely. The 6.5 PRC is legal for deer in Indiana (straight-wall cartridge laws don’t apply—this is a rifle cartridge). We had a customer take a nice 8-point with one at 250 yards in Brown County last season.
What is the return policy if I don’t like it?
We offer a full refund within 30 days. Just make sure it’s unfired and in original condition. We’ve had one return on this model—the customer had an aftermarket stock that didn’t fit, but the rifle itself was fine.
Is the trigger adjustable without tools?
The trigger has an adjustment screw for pull weight. You’ll need a small Allen wrench (included). We set ours at 2.5 lbs and it stayed there through hundreds of rounds.
What does the 4.8/5 customer rating mean?
That’s from 23 buyers at our store. It means most people are very satisfied. The one 4-star review mentioned the tight comb fit, but the rifle shot well. We’ve seen consistent positive feedback on accuracy and weight.
