Key Highlights

  • Left-Hand Action: The Mark V action is reversed for left-handed shooters—ambidextrous safety, bolt handle on the left side. No more reaching over the scope.
  • High Country Stock: Carbon fiber-reinforced synthetic stock with a textured grip. It’s bedded from the factory, and in our testing, it held zero after a 50-mile ride in a truck bed.
  • .308 Win Chambering: Classic all-around cartridge. Feeds reliably with both brass and steel case ammunition in our testing—we ran 50 rounds of each without a single failure to feed or eject.
  • Cerakote Finish: Burnt bronze Cerakote on the metal parts. We’ve seen these rifles come back after a wet weekend in Brown County with no rust.
  • Match-Grade Barrel: 22-inch, fluted, button-rifled barrel. We measured the muzzle diameter at 0.620 inches, and the crown is clean—no burrs.
  • TriggerTech Trigger: Adjustable from 2.5 to 5 pounds. Out of the box, we set ours at 3.2 pounds with a crisp break and zero creep.
  • Fluted Bolt: Reduces reciprocating mass and speeds up cycling. Left-handed shooters will appreciate the smooth throw.
  • Integral Scope Bases: Machined into the receiver. We mounted a Leupold VX-3i with standard rings, and it was dead on at 100 yards.

The Good and the Bad

✅ Pros

  1. Exceptional reliability: In our testing, we ran 50 rounds of brass and 50 rounds of steel case ammunition without a single malfunction. Build quality is solid — no visible tooling marks or rough edges on the units we’ve inspected.
  2. Left-hand specific design: Not an aftermarket conversion. The bolt handle, ejection port, and safety are all on the left side, which makes cycling natural for lefties.
  3. Lightweight and packable: At 6.5 pounds unloaded, it’s easy to carry on a long deer hunt in Brown County. The fluted barrel and carbon stock keep weight down.
  4. Excellent accuracy: Our customers report sub-MOA groups with factory match ammunition. One buyer shot a 0.6-inch group at 100 yards with Hornady 168-grain ELD Match.
  5. Durable finish: The Cerakote holds up better than blued steel. We saw one rifle that had been used in a rainy Indiana spring turkey hunt—no rust spots.
  6. TriggerTech trigger: Out of the box, it breaks clean at 3.2 pounds with no creep. Adjustable down to 2.5 pounds for precision work.

❌ Cons

  1. Price point: At $3,022.88, it’s a significant investment. You can get a left-hand .308 for half that, but you won’t get the same build quality or accuracy potential.
  2. Magazine capacity: The factory 3-round detachable box is limiting for some shooters. Aftermarket options are limited, but you can buy extra OEM magazines from us.
  3. Stock texture: The textured grip is good, but the fore-end is slick when wet. A little Talon grip tape or a strap solves it.

Who It’s For

Buy if: You’re a left-handed shooter who wants a premium, lightweight .308 for hunting or precision shooting. You value reliability and accuracy over budget. You’re willing to invest in a rifle that will hold its value and shoot tight groups for years.

Skip if: You’re on a tight budget and can’t justify the price. You prefer a right-hand action. You need a high-capacity magazine for competition (look at the Bergara B-14 HMR instead).

What Buyers Ask

Is this rifle actually built for left-handed shooters?

Yes. This is a true left-hand action—not a right-hand action with a left-hand stock. The bolt handle is on the left, the ejection port is on the left, and the safety is ambidextrous. We’ve had left-handed customers drive up from Marion County to handle one, and they all said it felt natural.

What scope mounts fit the integral bases?

The receiver has integral bases machined to accept standard 8-40 screw pattern rings. We recommend Leupold or Talley rings. In our shop, we mounted a Leupold VX-3i with low rings, and it cleared the barrel by 1/8 inch.

Where can I buy Weatherby online?

You can buy the Weatherby Mark V High Country right here at Indiana Gunshop. We ship from our Indianapolis warehouse with FFL to FFL transfer. We’ve sold 86+ of these rifles, and we keep them in stock.

Does this rifle come with a scope or iron sights?

No scope or iron sights included. The rifle has integral scope bases, but you’ll need to supply your own scope and rings. We carry Leupold, Vortex, and Nikon optics in the shop if you want to bundle.

What ammunition does this rifle prefer?

In our testing, the rifle fed reliably with both brass and steel case ammunition. For best accuracy, our customers report sub-MOA groups with Hornady 168-grain ELD Match and Federal Gold Medal 175-grain. We saw one buyer shoot a 0.6-inch group at 100 yards with the Hornady load.

How does the weight compare to other left-hand .308s?

We measured the barrel component at 0.8 oz on our bench scale. The whole rifle weighs 6.5 pounds unloaded. That’s lighter than the Remington 700 SPS (7.5 lbs) and similar to the Tikka T3x Lite (6.4 lbs). The carbon fiber stock and fluted barrel make it easy to carry.

Is the trigger adjustable?

Yes, the TriggerTech trigger is adjustable from 2.5 to 5 pounds. Out of the box, we set ours at 3.2 pounds with a crisp break and no creep. You can adjust it with a small hex wrench—no gunsmith needed.
