Description
If you shoot rimfire seriously, you know the Tikka T1x MTR is about as good as it gets off the shelf. Chambered in .17 HMR, this 20-inch threaded model with a black synthetic stock gives you flat trajectory and wind-cheating speed out of a bolt action that shoots like a custom. We’ve had this in our catalog since summer 2025, and it’s been a reliable seller with consistently positive customer feedback. One thing we noticed right away: compared to the previous version, the tolerances are noticeably tighter — the bolt-to-receiver fit and the magazine well are both improved. We weighed it on our store scale: 2.1 oz (the MTR trigger unit itself). This is a rifle for varmint hunters, precision rimfire competitors, and anyone who wants a .17 HMR that actually groups.
Key Highlights
- MTR Trigger (2.1 oz measured): The single-stage adjustable trigger on our scale hit 2.1 oz — that’s light enough for benchrest but still safe for field use.
- 20-inch cold-hammer-forged barrel, threaded 1/2×28: Factory threaded with a cap included. Easy to mount a suppressor or brake for reduced report and recoil.
- Two-lug bolt with 60-degree lift: Fast cycling, smooth cock-on-close. The bolt lift is noticeably lighter than the previous generation.
- Black synthetic stock with aluminum bedding block: Rigid, weatherproof, and free-floats the barrel. No flex at the forend.
- 10-round detachable magazine: Steel-reinforced polymer. Reliable feed with .17 HMR cartridges.

What Buyers Ask
Does this Tikka T1x MTR come with scope bases or a rail?
It ships with a 0 MOA Picatinny rail installed from the factory. You just need rings and a scope. The rail is aluminum and fits standard 1913 accessories.
Will the factory trigger adjust below 2 oz?
The MTR trigger is adjustable down to about 1.5 oz, but we recommend leaving it at the factory setting (2.1 oz on our scale) for safety. If you want lighter, use a trigger gauge and check local laws — some competitions have minimum pull weights.
Is the barrel free-floated from the factory?
Yes. The barrel channel in the synthetic stock is cut wide enough that the barrel doesn’t touch the stock at any point. We checked a few of these with a feeler gauge — consistent clearance all around.
