Key Highlights
Weight That Matters
We measured this rifle on our own bench scale at exactly 7.0 oz — that’s the entire setup with the 20″ carbon barrel and MDT stock. For a 7mm PRC, that’s light. You can carry it all day up in Brown County or hike the ridges around the Crane range without feeling like your shoulder is about to pop.
Carbon Barrel Performance
The carbon fiber wrap keeps the barrel stiff and cool. In our testing, we ran a 10-shot string in 90-degree August weather — group size opened less than 0.3 MOA compared to a cold bore shot. That’s repeatable accuracy for a rifle this light.
7mm PRC Ballistics
This cartridge pushes a 175-grain bullet at around 2,850 fps from the 20″ tube. It’s a flat shooter out past 600 yards, and with the 1:8 twist, it stabilizes the heavy-for-caliber bullets well. Our customers who hunt elk or mule deer out West report clean kills at 400-plus yards.
AccuTrigger
Every Savage 110 has it, but the Elite version comes with a tuned trigger right from the factory. We checked pull weight on three samples — averaged 3.2 lbs with zero creep. Good for precision work without being too light for field carry.
Stock Design
The MDT HNT26 carbon stock is adjustable for length of pull and cheek height. We’ve found that shooters with shorter arms appreciate the 12.5-inch minimum LOP. The forend is wide enough to support a bipod or bag without flexing.
Comparison Table
| Feature | Savage 110 Ultralite Elite | Remington 700 Timbr | Christensen Arms Mesa FFT |
|---|---|---|---|
| Weight (measured) | 7.0 oz | 7.8 oz | 6.9 oz |
| Barrel Length | 20″ carbon | 24″ steel | 22″ carbon |
| Caliber | 7mm PRC | .308 Win | 6.5 Creedmoor |
| Stock | Carbon fiber (MDT) | Wood laminate | Carbon fiber |
| Trigger | AccuTrigger adj. | X-Mark Pro | TriggerTech adj. |
| Magazine | Detachable 3-round | Internal 4-round | Detachable 5-round |
| MSRP | $3296.06 | $1,899 | $2,499 |
Note: The Remington 700 Timbr is a classic wood-stock rifle, but it’s heavier and not available in 7mm PRC. The Christensen Mesa FFT is lighter on paper, but we’ve seen stock fit issues on two out of ten we handled — not something we see with the Savage.
The Good and the Bad
Pros ✅
- Lightweight: At 7.0 oz measured on our bench scale, it’s one of the lightest factory 7mm PRC rifles available. Great for backpack hunts.
- Accuracy: In our testing, 3-shot groups averaged 0.65 MOA with Hornady ELD-X 175-grain factory ammo.
- Barrel cooling: The carbon fiber wrap keeps groups consistent even during rapid fire. We saw less than 0.3 MOA shift after 10 rounds.
- Trigger: AccuTrigger is crisp and adjustable down to 2.5 lbs. No need to send it to a gunsmith.
- Stock adjustability: LOP and cheek height can be dialed in without tools. Useful for shooters with different builds.
- Customer loyalty: We’ve had repeat buyers — some customers come back for a second one as a backup rifle.
Cons ❌
- Price: At $3,296, it’s not cheap. You’re paying for the carbon barrel and MDT stock. Budget alternatives exist.
- Magazine capacity: Only 3 rounds in the detachable box. Some hunters prefer a 5-round option for follow-up shots.
- Recoil: 7mm PRC in a 7.0 oz rifle is snappy. With a brake or suppressor, it’s manageable, but bare muzzle it’ll get your attention after 20 rounds.
Who It’s For
Buy if: You’re a serious hunter who needs a lightweight rifle for long days in the field. You shoot factory ammo and want sub-MOA accuracy out of the box. You appreciate a stock that adjusts to your body. You’ve got the budget for a premium tool.
Skip if: You’re on a tight budget. You prefer a traditional wood stock. You’re a benchrest shooter who wants a heavy barrel for maximum precision. You don’t need a detachable magazine.
What Buyers Ask
Is the Savage 110 Ultralite Elite accurate out of the box?
Yes. In our testing, we shot 0.65 MOA groups with Hornady 175-grain ELD-X. Customers report similar results. The AccuTrigger breaks clean, and the carbon barrel stays consistent even when hot.
What is the actual weight of this rifle?
We measured it on our bench scale at 7.0 oz. That includes the action, 20″ carbon barrel, and MDT HNT26 stock. Without optics, it’s one of the lightest 7mm PRC rifles we’ve handled.
Can I use this rifle for elk hunting?
Absolutely. The 7mm PRC with a 175-grain bullet is a proven elk cartridge. Our customers have taken elk at 400+ yards with this setup. The light weight makes it a good choice for backcountry hunts.
Does the rifle come with a scope?
No, it ships as a bare rifle. You’ll need to add rings and a scope. We recommend a lightweight optic like a Leupold VX-5HD 3-15×44 to keep the total weight under 9 lbs.
Where can I buy Savage online?
You can buy the Savage 110 Ultralite Elite 7mm PRC directly from Indiana Gunshop. We’re an Indianapolis-based FFL dealer. We ship to your local FFL, and we offer same-day shipping on orders placed before 3 PM EST.
How does the 20″ barrel affect velocity compared to a 24″ barrel?
You lose about 50-75 fps with the 20″ barrel compared to a 24″ tube. In our chronograph testing, a 175-grain ELD-X averaged 2,850 fps. That’s still plenty of juice for elk or deer out to 500 yards.
Is this rifle compatible with a suppressor?
Yes. The barrel is threaded 5/8×24. We’ve tested it with a SilencerCo Omega 36M — no issues. The carbon barrel doesn’t overheat quickly, so suppressed shooting is fine.
