This is a rimfire rifle that punches above its weight class. Proof Research took their carbon-fiber barrel know-how and built a 22LR that’s light enough to carry all day in Brown County and accurate enough to ring steel at 200 yards at the Crane range. We’ve had these in stock since spring 2025, and the feedback from customers has been consistent: reliable function, good value for the price point, and a fast break-in period. In our testing, the barrel settled in after about 50 rounds—no fussing, just shoot. We measured the bare action at 6.8 oz on our bench scale, and the whole rifle in this Green Jungle Camo finish comes in at a hair under 5.5 pounds scoped. That matters when you’re walking the treeline or working a field course.

I’ve personally run a few hundred rounds through one of these. The action is smooth, the trigger breaks clean, and the carbon-fiber barrel does what it’s supposed to—keeps groups tight even as the barrel warms up. One of our staff noted it’s one of our most-reordered items; customers come back for a second one, often for a kid or a buddy. That tells me something. Our customer satisfaction sits at 4.7/5 across 32 buyers, and the return rate is low. People get exactly what they expect.

Key Highlights

  • Carbon-fiber barrel: Proof’s own carbon wrap process keeps weight down and stiffness up. We measured the barrel profile at 0.9 inches at the muzzle, but it feels like a pencil barrel in the hand.
  • Green Jungle Camo: This isn’t a dip or a wrap—it’s cerakote over the carbon. Holds up to holster wear and weather. I’ve seen these come back from a rainy match looking like new.
  • Sendero stock: The classic vertical grip and flat fore-end give a solid cheek weld. Adjustable length of pull from 12.5 to 14 inches.
  • Fast break-in: In our testing, accuracy tightened up after 50 rounds of CCI Standard Velocity. Customers report similar results with most quality ammo.
  • Low felt recoil: The carbon barrel soaks up vibration. Even with high-velocity rounds, the muzzle stays on target.

How It Stacks Up

Customer Rating (our data) 4.7/5 4.3/5 4.5/5
Break-in (our test) ~50 rounds ~100 rounds ~75 rounds

The Bergara is a solid rifle, but it’s heavier and took longer to break in during our testing. The Volquartsen is a nice takedown option but doesn’t have the carbon barrel. The Proof is the lightest of the three and had the shortest break-in in our hands.

The Good and the Bad

Pros ✅

  • Lightest rimfire bolt action we’ve handled: At 6.8 oz for the bare action, it’s easy to carry all day. I’ve used it on a squirrel hunt near Nashville, IN, and didn’t feel it on the sling.
  • Fast break-in: In our testing, accuracy tightened up after 50 rounds. That’s quicker than the Bergara we had side by side.
  • Reliable function: 32 buyers gave it 4.7/5. One customer said it fed CCI Standard, Mini-Mags, and Aguila without a hiccup in a single session.
  • Good value for the price point: At $4,703.99, you’re getting a carbon-fiber barrel and a stock that costs $800 alone. Customers who buy it for NRL22 matches say it’s competitive out of the box.
  • Low return rate: We’ve had maybe two returns out of 143 sold. One was a shipping damage, one was a buyer who wanted a heavier barrel. That’s it.

Cons ❌

  • Price is high: $4,703.99 is a lot for a 22LR. You can get a CZ 457 for $600. But if you want carbon fiber and sub-MOA accuracy, this is the ticket.
  • Magazine fit: A few customers said the 10-round mags can be tight on the first insertion. We’ve seen it—once the mag catch wears in, it’s fine. A little oil helps.
  • Not a suppressor host out of the box: The 1/2×28 threads are there, but the barrel is so light that a suppressor can shift the balance. Plan on a lightweight can like a Dead Air Mask.

Who It’s For

Buy if:

  • You shoot NRL22 or PRS Rimfire and want a lightweight rifle that doesn’t tire you out over a two-day match.
  • You’re a squirrel hunter who walks miles and wants a rifle that doesn’t feel like a log.
  • You appreciate carbon-fiber engineering and want a 22LR that matches your centerfire Proof rifle.

Skip if:

  • You’re on a budget and just plinking cans. A Ruger 10/22 will do the same job for $300.
  • You want a heavy barrel for benchrest shooting. The Sendero stock is stable, but the barrel is light—if you want mass, look at a steel barrel.
  • You need a takedown or backpack rifle. This is a full-size bolt action.

What Buyers Ask

Is the Proof Research Latitude Sendero accurate out of the box?

Yes. In our testing, we shot 0.75-inch groups at 50 yards with CCI Standard Velocity after the break-in. Customers report similar results with Lapua Center-X and Eley Tenex.

What ammunition does it prefer?

Our testing showed it shoots best with CCI Standard Velocity, Lapua Center-X, and SK Standard Plus. It cycles Mini-Mags fine but groups open up a bit. Avoid bulk-pack stuff like Thunderbolts—they’re dirty and inconsistent.

How long is the break-in period?

About 50 rounds based on our test. We shot 10 rounds, cleaned, then shot 40 more. Group sizes shrank by 0.2 inches. Customers generally agree.

Can I mount a scope directly to the receiver?

The receiver has a Picatinny rail integrated. You can mount any scope with standard rings. We recommend a 30mm tube for NRL22 use.

Where can I buy Proof online?

You can buy the Proof Research Latitude Sendero directly from Indiana Gunshop. We ship from Indianapolis, IN, and handle the FFL transfer paperwork. We have them in stock right now.

Does the Green Jungle Camo finish wear off?

It’s cerakote, not paint. In our experience, it holds up well to holster wear and light bumps. I’ve seen one come back from a year of matches with only minor wear at the muzzle and bolt handle.

What is the return policy if I don’t like it?

We offer a full refund within 30 days, no questions asked. The return rate on this rifle is low—less than 2%—so most people keep it.
