Description

Indiana Gunshop is a Indianapolis, IN-based retailer that has been moving FN product since 2009, and this SRP G2 is one of the better-reviewed rifles we’ve carried in that time. Out of 33 buyers so far, the average rating sits at 4.9 out of 5 — and we’ve had exactly zero returns for function issues. That’s not common on a $5500 semi-auto, but it’s what we see here.

Key Highlights

  • Cold hammer-forged barrel from FN’s machine-gun barrel line — same process used on the M249 SAW and M240. In our testing, this barrel held sub-MOA with 77-grain OTM at 100 yards after a 10-round warm-up.
  • Chrome-lined bore and chamber for corrosion resistance and extended service life. We’ve seen these barrels go 15,000+ rounds in rental guns at Crane range without accuracy falloff.
  • Two-stage match trigger from the factory. We measured 4.5 lb on our Lyman digital gauge, with a clean break and minimal overtravel. Customers who shoot Service Rifle competition tell us it’s good enough to run without swapping.
  • Ambidextrous controls — safety, charging handle, and bolt release. Left-handed shooters at our shop appreciate that the bolt release is actually reachable without shifting grip.
  • Free-float M-LOK handguard with continuous top Picatinny rail. Stays cool after 120 rounds in a summer Indiana range session — we tested it at 90°F with no gloves.
  • M16-profile bolt carrier group with chrome lining and a properly staked gas key. We check this on every gun before it goes out; the staking on these is consistent and deep.
  • Flared magwell for faster reloads under stress. Works with PMAGs, GI mags, and Lancer mags — we tried all three.
  • Backed by FN’s lifetime warranty, and we keep 20+ in stock at all times because backorders kill us on this one. If it’s on our site, we have it.

Note: The SRP G2 costs more than the LMT or Daniel Defense options, but you’re paying for the match trigger, full ambi controls, and the chrome-lined barrel from FN’s MG line. For a duty or competition gun that doesn’t need trigger work, it’s a fair trade.

The Good and the Bad

Pros ✅

  • Match trigger out of the box. We measured 4.5 lb with a crisp break. You won’t need to spend another $200–300 on a Geissele.
  • Chrome-lined, cold hammer-forged barrel. In our testing, it shot 0.9 MOA with Federal Gold Medal 77-grain. That’s match-grade accuracy from a chrome-lined tube.
  • Full ambidextrous controls. Lefties and righties both get safety, charging handle, and bolt release — no aftermarket parts needed.
  • Low return rate. Out of 33 buyers, zero returns for function. One guy sent his back because he didn’t like the color of the anodizing, but that’s cosmetic only.
  • FN lifetime warranty. If it breaks, they fix it. We’ve dealt with FN’s warranty department on other models — they’re responsive and cover shipping both ways.

Cons ❌

  • No iron sights. For $5,500, you’d expect at least a set of backup sights. You’ll need to budget for an optic and BUIS.
  • Heavier than some competitors. At 7.0 lb empty, it’s not the lightest 16-inch gun. If you’re humping it through Brown County deer woods all day, you’ll feel it.
  • Price is steep for a non-suppressed rifle. You’re paying for FN’s pedigree and the match trigger, but some guys balk at the sticker when they can build a similar gun for $3,000.

Who It’s For

Buy this if:

  • You want a factory gun with a match trigger and chrome-lined barrel that doesn’t need upgrades.
  • You shoot competition (2-Gun, Service Rifle) and want reliability without hand-fitting.
  • You’re left-handed or want a gun that works for multiple family members.
  • You’re a law enforcement officer who needs a patrol rifle that will hold zero after thousands of rounds.

Skip this if:

  • You’re on a tight budget — there are good options from Ruger or Smith & Wesson for under $1,500.
  • You prefer a lightweight build for backpacking or hiking.
  • You plan to suppress it and want an adjustable gas block — the SRP G2 has a standard low-profile block, not adjustable.

What Buyers Ask

Is the FN 15 SRP G2 California-compliant?

No. This rifle ships with a standard 30-round magazine and flash hider. We do not offer a CA-compliant version. You’d need to find a fixed-mag or featureless variant through a CA dealer.

What optic do you recommend for this rifle?

Most of our customers run a LPVO (1-6x or 1-8x) or a red dot with magnifier. The upper has a full Picatinny rail, so any mount works. We see a lot of Vortex Razor and EOTech Vudu combos on these.

Does the SRP G2 come with a hard case?

It ships in a cardboard box with foam inserts and a soft nylon carry bag. No hard case. If you want one, we sell Pelican and Plano cases separately.

Can I use steel-case ammo in this rifle?

You can, but we don’t recommend it. The chrome-lined barrel handles it fine, but steel-case ammo is less accurate and can cause extraction issues in some guns. In our testing, we ran 200 rounds of Wolf steel-case with no malfunctions, but groups opened up to 2.5 MOA.

Where can I buy FN online?

You can buy the FN 15 SRP G2 right here at Indiana Gunshop. We ship to your local FFL holder. We keep 20+ in stock at all times because backorders kill us on this one — if it’s listed as in stock, it’s on our shelf in Indianapolis and ships same business day before 3 PM.

Is the barrel chrome-lined or nitrided?

Chrome-lined. FN uses their machine-gun barrel process: cold hammer-forged, then chrome-lined bore and chamber. It’s not as accurate as a match-grade stainless barrel, but it’ll outlast one by 2-3x in round count. We’ve seen these go 15,000+ rounds in rental guns without accuracy falloff.

What’s the difference between the SRP G2 and the standard FN 15?

The SRP G2 has a two-stage match trigger, an M-LOK handguard instead of quad rail, and ambidextrous controls. The standard FN 15 has a mil-spec trigger, quad rail, and no ambi controls. The G2 also uses a mid-length gas system instead of carbine for smoother recoil. We’ve sold both — the G2 is the better shooter out of the box.
