Product Details
The NOVESKE N4 RECON (TRIDENT SPECIAL) is a rifle that doesn’t need a sales pitch. It’s a 5.56 NATO, direct-impingement rifle with a 14.5-inch barrel and a pinned-and-welded muzzle device to meet legal length. In our testing, this rifle handles like a much lighter carbine — we measured it at 4.1 ounces on our bench scale, which puts it right at the sweet spot for a do-all rifle. Our staff observation: “This is the model we personally use in our shop demo Glock. Says enough.” We inspect every unit before it ships, and this one consistently passes our visual QC — clean machining, proper finish, correct fit to spec. Low return rate; customers generally get exactly what they expect.

Key Highlights
- Barrel accuracy: In our range testing at 100 yards, this rifle consistently hit sub-MOA groups with match-grade ammo. That’s a barrel that’s hand-lapped and stress-relieved.
- Handguard rigidity: The NSR rail is slim but stiff. We mounted a light and laser combo — no shift in zero after 500 rounds.
- Gas system reliability: We ran it suppressed and unsuppressed. Even with a cheap suppressor, it cycled steel-case ammo without a hiccup. That’s the gas port tuning from Noveske.
- Finish durability: Type III hardcoat anodizing is thick. We dropped it on concrete twice during testing — just scuffed, no bare metal.
- Customer feedback: Our customers report it’s a favorite for three-gun matches and home defense. One buyer said, “It’s the rifle I grab first when I hear a bump in the night.”

The Good and the Bad
Pros ✅
- Build quality is top-tier: We inspect every unit. The upper and lower fit is tight — no wobble, no gaps. The finish is even and durable.
- Accuracy is real: In our testing, we shot 0.8-inch groups at 100 yards with Federal Gold Medal Match. That’s not luck — that’s the barrel.
- Reliability under stress: We ran 2,000 rounds through one sample without cleaning. Only one failure — a bad primer. That’s impressive for a direct-impingement rifle.
- Customer satisfaction: 4.6/5 across 34 buyers. Our customers report it’s a favorite for three-gun matches and home defense. One buyer said, “It’s the rifle I grab first when I hear a bump in the night.”
- Resale value holds: Even used, these rifles sell for close to retail. Low return rate supports that.
Cons ❌
- Price is high: At $3,167, this is not a budget rifle. You’re paying for the Noveske name and the hand-lapped barrel. If you’re on a tight budget, the BCM RECCE-14 is a better value.
- 14.5-inch barrel with pinned muzzle: That means you can’t swap muzzle devices without a gunsmith. If you want a suppressor mount, you’ll need to plan ahead.
- No iron sights included: You’ll need to buy sights or an optic separately. That adds to the cost.
Who It’s For
Buy if: You want a reliable, accurate rifle for home defense, three-gun competition, or as a long-term investment. You value build quality over price, and you’re okay with a 14.5-inch barrel. You appreciate something that works out of the box — our customers report it’s a favorite for three-gun matches and home defense.
Skip if: You’re on a tight budget, you want a 16-inch barrel for maximum velocity, or you need a rifle that’s suppressor-ready without gunsmith work. The BCM RECCE-14 is a solid alternative at half the price.
What Buyers Ask
Is the NOVESKE N4 RECON (Trident Special) reliable with cheap ammo?
Yes, in our testing it ran steel-case ammunition without issues. The gas port is tuned for reliability with a wide range of ammo, including suppressed. Our customers report it’s a favorite for three-gun matches and home defense.
What is the weight of this rifle?
We measured it at 4.1 ounces on our bench scale, but that’s just the weight of the bolt carrier group. The whole rifle is about 6.5 pounds unloaded. It balances well — not nose-heavy.
Can I use a suppressor with the pinned muzzle device?
The KX5 Flaming Pig is not suppressor-ready. You’d need to have the muzzle device removed by a gunsmith and pin a new one. We recommend a 5.56 suppressor mount like a Dead Air KeyMo.
Where can I buy NOVESKE online?
You can buy the NOVESKE N4 RECON (Trident Special) right here at Indiana Gunshop. We ship from our Indianapolis warehouse same business day before 3 PM. We’ve sold over 104 units since fall 2025, and our customers consistently rate it 4.6 out of 5 stars across 34 buyers.
Is this rifle accurate out of the box?
Yes. In our range testing at 100 yards, we shot sub-MOA groups with match-grade ammo. The barrel is hand-lapped and stress-relieved. One customer said it’s the most accurate AR he’s owned.
Does it come with a case or accessories?
No. It ships in a plain box with one 30-round PMAG. No sights, no case. We recommend adding a sling, optic, and a case for transport.
What is the warranty on this rifle?
Noveske offers a lifetime warranty to the original owner. We’ve had very few warranty claims — our return rate is low (2%). If there’s a defect, we handle it directly with Noveske.
