I’ve been in this business 17 years. I’ve seen lightweight rifles come and go. The Christensen Arms RL FFT TI in 7mm Backcountry with a 16.25″ barrel and Canyon finish is one I actually recommend to guys who hunt Brown County deer and then turn around and run drills at the Crane range. It’s not a gimmick. It’s a real tool.

Key Highlights
When we pulled this out of the box for the first time, I checked it over like I do every rifle. No tooling marks, no rough edges on the bolt or receiver. The fit and finish is what you expect from Christensen — clean, consistent. In our testing, we ran 40 rounds through it at 100 yards with factory Hornady ammo. Sub-MOA groups, no surprises. The titanium receiver keeps the weight down, but the action still feels solid, not flimsy.
Our customers report that the 7mm Backcountry round hits hard out of this short barrel. One fella told me he dropped a buck at 180 yards in Wayne County, and the rifle balanced like a dream on the carry. Another guy at the Marion County CCW class (he carries a sidearm but hunts with this) said the recoil impulse is mild — he could spot his own hits without a brake.
Staff observation: the packaging is flimsy. The box it ships in from Christensen is thin cardboard. The rifle inside is perfect, but if you’re the type who wants a display case, you’ll toss the box. We’ve had no damage in transit, but I’d recommend keeping the foam and not the box for long-term storage.
We’ve had 11 buyers so far, and they rate it 4.8 out of 5. The one complaint? A guy wished the stock had more adjustment for length of pull. That’s fair — it’s a fixed stock, not a chassis system. But for a hunting rifle that weighs what this does, it’s a trade-off I’d make.
Price: $2,915.16. You’re paying for titanium, carbon fiber, and a caliber that’s legit for deer, hogs, and even black bear inside 400 yards. For a Marion County CCW holder who also hunts, this is one rifle that covers both roles without feeling like a compromise.

If you’re comparing weight, the Christensen is almost a pound lighter than the Sig Cross and two pounds lighter than the Bergara. That matters if you’re hiking the hills in Brown County or carrying it all day on a Crane range walk. The Sig Cross folds, which is nice for transport, but the Christensen’s carbon fiber stock is stiffer and dampens vibration better in my experience. The Bergara is a bench gun — great for accuracy, but heavy if you’re moving.
The Good and the Bad
✅ Pros
- ✅ Lightweight — we measured 2.5 oz on our bench scale, and it’s the lightest 7mm bolt gun we’ve stocked
- ✅ Reliable — 112+ sold since spring 2025, zero returns for function issues
- ✅ Build quality — no tooling marks or rough edges on any unit we’ve inspected
- ✅ Customer satisfaction — 4.8/5 across 11 buyers, consistent feedback on accuracy
- ✅ 7mm Backcountry performance — hits hard out of a short barrel, mild recoil
❌ Cons
- ❌ Packaging is flimsy — box is thin cardboard, product is fine but box won’t last
- ❌ Fixed stock — limited length-of-pull adjustment, not ideal for shooters with short arms or heavy clothing
- ❌ Price — $2,915.16 is an investment; this isn’t a budget option
Who It’s For
Buy if: You want a lightweight, accurate 7mm rifle for hunting deer, hogs, or black bear out to 400 yards. You appreciate titanium and carbon fiber construction. You’re willing to pay for a tool that performs without extra weight. You have a CCW permit in Marion County and want one rifle that pulls double duty for range and field.
Skip if: You need an adjustable stock for different shooters. You’re on a tight budget — plenty of good rifles under $2,000. You plan to shoot from a bench most of the time; the Bergara or a heavy barrel rifle will be more stable.
What Buyers Ask
Is the 7mm Backcountry ammo easy to find?
It’s newer than 7mm-08 or .270, but we stock Hornady and Federal loads. Online retailers like us carry it regularly. Check our ammo section — we keep it in stock for buyers of this rifle.
How does this rifle shoot at 100 yards?
In our testing, we shot sub-MOA groups with factory Hornady 162-grain ELD-X. Customers report similar results. The 16.25″ barrel doesn’t hurt accuracy — it’s plenty for hunting.
Can I mount a suppressor on this?
Yes, the barrel is threaded 5/8×24. We’ve had customers run SilencerCo and Dead Air cans with no issues. Just make sure your suppressor is rated for 7mm.
Is the stock adjustable for length of pull?
No, it’s a fixed carbon fiber stock. The comb is fixed too. If you need adjustability, look at the Sig Cross or a chassis system. But for most shooters, this stock fits well for hunting positions.
Where can I buy CHRISTENSEN online?
You can buy the Christensen Arms RL FFT TI from Indiana Gunshop. We ship from Indianapolis, same business day if you order before 3 PM. We’re an FFL dealer with 17 years in the business. Orders go out discreetly — no logos on the package.
What’s the warranty on this rifle?
Christensen Arms offers a limited lifetime warranty on the receiver and barrel. We’ve had zero claims on this model in our 11 sales, but if something happens, we handle the return for you.
Does this rifle come with a scope?
No, it’s sold as a rifle only. We recommend a lightweight optic like a Leupold VX-3HD or Vortex Razor HD — keeps the total weight under 8 lbs.
