This is a short-barreled rifle in 6.8x51mm that mimics the Sig MCX-SPEAR platform. It’s not a safe queen — it’s meant to run. Key Highlights

• 6.8x51mm chambering — gives you more energy at the muzzle than 5.56 or .308, flatter trajectory for longer shots. Out in Brown County hunting, that extra reach matters when you’re trying to take a clean shot at 400 yards across a soybean field.
• SBR configuration — shorter barrel keeps it maneuverable indoors or from a vehicle. In Marion County, where CCW realities include tight spaces and quick transitions, this makes sense for a rifle that might serve double duty.
• Free-float M-LOK handguard — keeps your support hand cool and gives you plenty of rail space for a light, laser, or bipod. We’ve mounted a few different accessories in-house, and the slots are true to spec.
• Ambidextrous controls — safety, magazine release, and charging handle all work for lefties without swapping parts. That’s a nice touch for a rifle at this price point.
• Adjustable side-folding stock — folds to the left for compact storage, locks up tight with no play. We’ve cycled the hinge a hundred times in the shop and it still feels like new.

How It Stacks Up

The Real MCX-SPEAR is a premium piece. The PSA and BCA options are cheaper, but you’ll see more QC issues and heavier overall weight. If you want a lightweight, compact 6.8 rifle that runs out of the box, this is the one.

Pros ✅

1. Zero warranty claims — in our testing and over a year of sales, we’ve had no returns or issues. That’s rare for any semi-auto rifle, let alone one in a less common caliber.
2. Lightweight for the caliber — we measured 4.7 oz on our bench scale. That’s a full 2+ pounds lighter than most .308 ARs. Makes a difference when you’re humping it through the woods.
3. Accurate out of the box — customers report sub-MOA groups with match ammo at 100 yards. We saw similar results at the Crane range during a demo day.
4. Ambidextrous controls — left-handed shooters don’t have to modify a thing. That’s a big deal for a lot of folks.

Cons ❌

1. Pricey — at $4,111.73, this isn’t a budget rifle. You’re paying for the brand, the design, and the reliability. If you don’t need a compact 6.8, you can spend less.
2. Limited magazine availability — 6.8×51 mags aren’t as common as .308 or 5.56. You’ll want to order extras when you buy the rifle.
3. NFA rules apply — since it’s an SBR, you need a tax stamp or it must ship with a pinned/welded muzzle device to hit 16 inches. We handle that on our end, but make sure your FFL knows the drill.

Buy if: You want a lightweight, short-barrel rifle in 6.8×51 for hunting, competition, or defense. You’re willing to pay for reliability and don’t want to gamble on QC. You shoot lefty or want a rifle that works for both hands. You’re okay with the NFA paperwork or you’re buying as a pistol/SBR combo.

Skip if: You’re on a tight budget — there are cheaper .308 options. You don’t need the 6.8 ballistics and can make do with 5.56 or .300 Blackout. You don’t want to deal with a tax stamp or restricted configuration.
